Downtown tour

Image
Today we took the free shuttle from our campsite to downtown Nashville.  We decided to do the hop on hop off trolley tour so got to visit other areas of Nashville.  Three universities were on the tour.  Oprah went to Tennessee State, Trisha Yearwood to Belmont and only the very rich went to Vanderbilt.  Interesting to have 3 universities in one downtown core.  We also visited the Johnny Cash museum. That was fun to remember his music & life story.  We also went to the Tennessee Legend distillery, the Harley store, and a Jack Daniels retailer.  Lunch was a crab pot.  Was fun to see more than Broadway Street.  We were told today by our Uber driver that July 4th budget for fireworks is 1 million so looking forward to taking that in on Thursday!  I’m sure it will rival the show our pyro crew is doing on Canada Day in Chilliwack😊. Hard to outdo Midnight Pyro shows 😉 Johnny Cash museum...Kevan has a story when he met Johnny Cash doi...

Lynchburg Tennessee

Image
Yesterday we took the bike to Lynchburg to visit the Jack Daniels distillery.  Lynchburg is located in a dry county, but also marketed as the wettest dry county in the county 😊.   They excercise a loophole by selling lovely bottles...they just happen to be filled with Jack Daniels.  Tastings are permitted as they are just samples of the product manufacturered on site.  It was impressive to see this plant and see the history of the beginnings of Jack Daniels.  They pride themselves on being a family business.  They employ 45% of the town! The ride down was very warm on the bike.  It got to 35 degrees.  Our ride home had cooled down quite abit and we “enjoyed “ a thunderstorm with constant lightening in the distance.  Thankfully we only had 5 minutes of rain & were back in the trailer before the monsoons arrived. Lovely side roads in Tennessee  Tasting! O This cave is a mile deep with a natural spring that all Jack D...

Nashville

Image
It’s crazy how you can drive for 9 hours and go through so many different states.  We left Kansas & drove through Kansas City, which brought us into Missouri.  Next was St. Louis in Illinois.  Then we went through part of Kentucky before reaching Tennessee.  We arrived in Nashville on Monday afternoon.  We were glad we could set up the trailer for 10 days. Was exciting to see directions to all these cities! Our campsite in Nashville North  We had a relaxing Monday evening, had a campfire and some much needed down time.  Our campsite offers a free shuttle to Broadway Street, downtown Nashville, where all the action is.  We grabbed the afternoon shuttle & enjoyed exploring the action in Nashville.  Every bar has live music. Our first stop was 2 guys on guitars.  We enjoyed the music at Tequila Cowboy, then headed to the next place.  This took us to Honky Tonk Central.  Here we had a band entertaining and t...

Day 4

Image
Left our cul de sac and headed back to Colorado Springs to go see Garden of the God’s.  Thanks Jenn Thompson for suggesting!  So beautiful and a great experience.  We started with breakfast on the patio overlooking the mountains.  It’s advertised as eating in a postcard.  It was lovely. We took a shuttle to the base of the park and then walked through the rock formations. I could add so many photos but you get the idea.  By 10 am we were off to Kansas.  We had a reservation secured for a campsite and planned a 6 hour drive.  Not to be.  An hour into the drive Kevan noticed we had lost our trailer brakes.  At a truck stop he’s on the phone with Dan from Tech Trailer trying to diagnose the problem.  2 hours later it’s determined we lost a breakline, probably from severe bumpy roads in Colorado.  Kevan managed to plug the bad line & got 3 working.  Thanks Dan!! Now we are not getting into Junction Ci...

Day 3

Image
We had a good night in Rock Springs, Wyoming at a campsite.  We got a good start off to Colorado Friday morning.  On  Brent Bowkers recommendation we stopped in Fort Collins at the New Belgium brewery for a quick look around and of course a sample of the brew!  Then south to Denver.  Friday night traffic and major construction on the highway made for a late arrival in Colorado Springs.  No campsites available...no big deal we will redneck it at Walmart.  This city has banned Walmart camping, complete with security cameras.  Headed 15 minutes south & stayed in a cul de sac beside a gas station that allows overnighters.  A sign on the street indicated maybe not but attendant assured us it was ok.  Ha ha, boondocking at its finest! The beer was great! We had a nice private parking spot...and the rig hid the no Parking dign😊

Day 1 & 2

Image
The adventure has started!  Yesterday we crossed Sumas border with nobody in front of us at 7:30 am.  We stopped in Burlington for breakfast and the obligatory Costco run😊. We passed through Washington state and arrived in La Grande, Oregon for an early dinner.  Kevan was committed to getting to Idaho, so at 10:00pm we arrived at a lovely rest stop 15 minutes past Boise, Idaho.  A long day but we were pleased with our progress. This morning a quick breakfast in the trailer and lots of coffee and we were off to Salt Lake City, Utah.  Not completely enroute, required alittle side trip but worth the effort.  Late afternoon we headed off to Rock Springs, Wyoming. Tuesday night all packed Bike secured in the toy hauler Salt Lake.  The sand on the beach was covered in brine flies.  Apparently harmless but essential for the lake’s eco system.  It has no fish but brine shrimp thrive in it.  The lake is only 7 ft deep and has no tri...

Three more sleeps!

Packing has started and the chaos of leaving home & work for 2 months continues.  It will be good to be done all the preparations and hit the road.  I will try to be faithful in documenting our trip so you can join in on the fun and for us having a keepsake of the adventure to relive these moments in years to come.  Stay tuned.....
